My filter in my spa / hot tub is not easily coming out, any tips on how to remove it?
Posted by admin
Should I turn harder, or should I be afraid of it breaking?
It is a top loading filter, here is a link to what the filter looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110222680625&ih=001&category=3243&rd=1&ssPageName=mem_guide:2
The filrer is a top loader, we have removed the filter lid and now the filter is exposed, instructions say to turn counter clockwise and lift, we have tried to turn and it is stubborn, didn't want to turn to hard without knowing if we should.
Most likely you have a screw in filter that just needs a lot of persuasion. Unless it is really old and brittle the odds are your not going to be able to use enough force to break it off at the threads. I Bet you have some major scaling in your tub around the filter's threads. Worse case your spending 30 bucks.
Why do I react so oddly to hot tubs?
Posted by admin
I'm a 15 year old girl, and whenever I use my dad's indoor hot tub, I have odd reactions. As soon as I get in the hot tub, I feel uncomfortable and anxious. I can never stay in for more than 15 or 20 minutes. The second I step out, I get very dizzy and all the noises around me are muffled(almost as if I'm wearing earmuffs). It also gets a little difficult to breathe. I usually just try to walk it off, and those symptoms go away within 5 minutes or so. About 10 or 15 minutes later, I have EXTREMELY thin diarrhea. Then I have stomach pains the rest of the night, and into the next day. This has happened more than once, but only after using the hot tub.
Also the hot tub's temperature is usually 98-104 degrees(F).
The hot tub is treated with chemicals.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance for your help!
Ur body just may not be able to handle the temperatures of the hot tub
& chemicals in it .. stay away for a while & ask ur doctor
Hot tub wont work!?

Bought a used hot tub. I was told it worked before the husband replaced the plug and it blew every fuse in the house. It uses 115v i plugged it into my garage and nothing….
I know its getting power because it fried the heck out of me when i was messing with the guts while plugged in..stupid i know.
Anyone know where i should start other than hiring a repair man? Do i need to start the pump some how…do hot tubs often have on off switches other than the plugging it in and the dials?
sounds like you blew a breaker, do not start the pump without water, it will burn out
How do I make my hot tub heater into a plug in?

I have a Coates 6kw 240 volt (25 amp) heater salvaged from my old hot tub. Id like to use it for a small outdoor pool.
It has 2 large wires coming from the element and 2 smaller wires coming from the (High med low) controls as well as 2 white ground wires .
Can the 2 large wires be wired to a separate plug and the 2 small wires wired to another plug?
I already have a filter and pump for this little 8 ft pool but need a heater to warm it a bit since it is way to cold to swim in now. [I do not intend to run either the heater or the filter pump when anyone is actually using the pool and my electrician friend will rewire it if he knew what to do]
your 'electrician friend' isn't a electrician if he doesn't know what to do ,but you need to put it on a 25 amp RCBO with a isolator switch using 4 mm square cable at least.
My advise is pay somebody to do it ,you cant put a price on a persons life ,its not worth the risk
I dont know why my skin on my legs are burning?

I go swimming at a fitness center. There pool is warm because it is a therapy pool. There hot tub like burns my legs when i step into it. And i cant breathe in there sauna. And after my legs just burn and the back of my legs are red. And now the skin on my legs looks cracked? I tried putting lotion on them and it burned. I dont know what to do!?
That happens to me when it gets really cold outside. Try putting cortizone cream on them.

After thinking problem of motor not working was fixed with new fuse, it's down again. I had to kill the power because of this awful loud noise coming from the motor every 5 minutes for about five seconds. Actually brushed me back. Relay clicks but no running motor. When I called a repair man over and turned power on a few days later it worked again. Now this morning same probelm. Help someone please. What could be wrong, this is making me insane
Sounds like your motor has problems, but take your cell phone or video camera and videotape the noise/tub when you see it happen, so you can show the repair person.
So me and my roomate built a homemade hot tub inside our house and are looking for a cheap way to heat it….?

We built a homemade hot tub in one of our rooms… now we have the wooden frame, the filter and the water all in. We are now confused on how we will be able to heat this from inside the house? We arent trying to spend 300 dollars on an electic heater.. so does anyone have a cheap alternative pleaseee??
just light a bunch of candles under the wooden frame. dont worry its a wooden frame so it won't catch on fire because wood doesnt burn. better yet you can run "heat trace" wires around the edge of the water. make sure the wires are fully submerged, you dont want to start a fire.
i should tell you before I go i am not serious about this answer I dont want you to listen and end up burning your house down or worse yet electrocuted.
Is there a fence law with hot tubs/spas in Maryland?
Posted by admin
Hello - I am thinking of purchasing a hot tub. Is there a law in Maryland which would require me to have a fence, like a pool does? Or if the cover locks would that be good enough?
My parents have had hot tubs in the past at 2 different houses, but both times they were on a deck without steps to the back yard. So the only way to get to it was through the house. My house does not have a fence and it would be on my back patio.
This could make up my mind if I want to get one or now!
I don't know but your hot tub dealer would.they have never mentioned it to me(I'm also shop for one in MD)
How do I repair a leaky tub behind the access panel ?
Posted by admin
I've already caulked the chrome "hats" around the faucets and am still getting a few droplets of water when the middle nozzle is in the "shower" position. The drops appear behind the tub in the access panel dripping from the "Hot" Pipe
It sounds like the rubber seats or washers have worn down. Every tub faucet manufacture has a specific size, depth and shape of the tool you will need to extract the valve stem to replace the seats. Try to find the manufacturer of the faucet. Good luck! The name is seldom stamped anywhere. Most hardware stores sell a variety of valve stem tools in a set. They are not that expensive and not of good quality. You may luck out and find one that fits. Your next choice however is not that cheap. A plumber will probably charge you $75.00 for 2 - 5 cent washers.
How do you change a hot tub setting from a short pulse of the jet to a constant stream of bubbles?
Posted by admin
I have an American Spa hot tub probably from the 80's. It has two buttons on the top near the filter, a button for the light and for the jet. The jet button seems to only have one setting. If I press the button once it causes the jets to send out a short burst of bubbles for 5-10 seconds, then stops for 20 seconds, then another burst. On the electrical box down on the side of the tub there is a timer switch and nothing else. I don't see any way to adjust from short pulse to constant jet. Any advice?
The button you press to engage the high speed on the pump, does exactly that, it increases the water flow. The jets work somewhat like a venturi in a automobile carborator. Water is restricted in the jet and forced to move quickly through it. There's an air hole at the top of the jet, inside, that "feeds" air from the airline into this quickly moving water. Sometimes, if the water level is too high or if the jets themselves are turned down (partially closed), you'll get a short burst of air, then nothing. It's also possible that the airline itself is partially blocked, sometimes with hair or scale. If this is the actual cause, after ruling everything else out, those jets need to be unscrewed out of the return outlet and cleaned. It's also a good idea to run the pump briefly to get anything else in that line out. You may need a special tool, depending on the jet maker ( it's not going to be American Spa) to get the jets out.
Look for what looks like a round cap, near each jet or near your controls. Some models have the air control situated like this. Turning the cap counter clockwise, opens the air line. Failing that, your jets may be of the old variety and require you to open each one, individually, by turning the actual jet nozzle. Again, counter clockwise opens them.
