Portable hot tubs will save you money
Posted by admin
You may have already discovered portable hot tubs but the chances are that your first hot tub experience was in regular hot tub. It’s usually very memorable, either on holiday in the sun or snow, over friends or at the local health and fitness club. They provide the perfect way to unwind and relax after a hard days work and can be used in any weather.
After you have used a hot tub you are very tempted to buy one until you see the price which can be from $4000 to $15000. However, now with the new inflatable and portable hot tubs we can all discover the fun and relaxation of owning a hot tub at a fraction of the price and you can now purchase an inflatable portable hot tub for less than $600.
An important factor when you start researching the portable hot tub market is to decide how big you want the hot tub to be. Even though portable hot tubs are smaller than regular hot tubs they still come in all shapes and sizes and can fit anywhere from 2 to 6 people. Consider whether you are likely to entertain guests and have a hot tub party or if you are only going to use it for personal use. Are you likely to want to move the hot tub inside during winter months or will it remain in one place throughout the year? The great benefit of the inflatable portable hot tub is that it can be moved to fit in with the seasons, your lifestyle and your surroundings.
You don’t have to reconstruct your floor or have large holes dug out in the garden to have a portable hot tub installed. If you have the hot tub inside then it can sit on a standard supported floor. If the hot tub is outside it can sit on decking, patio or an even patch of grass.
A portable hot tub has the same benefits as a regular hot tub, it can have a thermostatic heater, a power jet massage and it can have the same water filtration system to ensure that the water is clean and sanitised.
With a portable hot tub you can have all the fun and benefits of owning a regular hot at a fraction of the price and it can be relocated with ease to suit your lifestyle needs.
Maximum weight limit on a deck?
Posted by admin
I know this is going to be difficult to answer without seeing the deck. (yes, I know I would be better off asking a professional, but thought I'd see if there was one here first)
Anyway, I have a portable hot tub. Fill is 300 gallons, up to 4 adults(usually only 2 in at a time)
Filled water weight is 2569 lbs according to manual specification. Adults weight up to 300 lbs max.
My deck is farely new, but we did not build it(bought house).
The deck is approximately 6 ft off ground, with 14 supporting beams(about 2 ft apart), 4 under/crossing beams, plus the top boards to make the deck..(all standard deck materials with bolts, brackets, etc)
I want to put the portable hot tub on it, but concerned. Though it's by no means the size of a standard hot tub needing ground floor install, it is heavy when filled.
Can someone tell me if this will be ok?
Thanks for your help.
If your joists (the boards that the deck boards are attached to) are 2' on center, the answer is no, it will not hold the hot tub. In order to put a hot tub on a deck, you should space the joists 12" on center, and beef up the beams under the joists. A deck is built to hold 40 pounds per square foot as "live load", which is everything you place on the deck that can be removed. This includes furniture, people, etc. This tub will exceed that substantially. Talk to an architect, or a builder in your area to determine what you will need to do to use the tub there. Good luck.
tricks to wiring a Hot tub?
Posted by admin
I am needing to see if a hot tub I have acquired still works. Can I just wire it in to the house box without the GFCI box in the middle? I have a dual pole 50 amp fuse in there for the proper 240v power (there was a different hot tub wired in previous to me owning the house). The hot tub also has a new looking 4 wire pig tail coming out of it.
Any wiring help would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty handy, just need the proper wiring steps if there are any or tricks to wiring a hot tub. I would prefer not to call an electrician.
Thanks!
I understand the hazards of electrcity and water, I am not retarded. All I want to know is if I NEED to have the GFCI in order to make the tub run…ie…without the GFCI, it will or will not function.
Last night I hooked up the tub straight to the house panel and flipped it on and nothing happened, no lights, buzzing, nothing. I traced the flow of power to the panel on the hot tub. The thick wires from the house panel are hot going into the panel on the tub. However, there seems to be no power coming out of the relay where the thick wires are hooked. (the relay is where the 3 wires go in, not the ground, and out of the top of this piece are tabs where the various jumpers and other tub elements are plugged in). My sensor doesn't pick up any sort of electricity going through any wires but those coming from the house box. Any ideas? I am confident that I have everything turned one and am pushing the correct buttons to start it.
Get an Electrician. -Water and Electricity are a potentially lethal
combination and you obviously don't know enough to do this right, especially with a used unit where (I bet), you don't even have the
installation instructions.
At least let a 'Pro' make the final connections and test them.
No one responsible will try to give you a detailed 'how to' with
the info you have provided. (If anyone tries, he's guessing.)
A four wire connection means that you need your two phase
wires, (240V.), a neutral, and a ground.
Look at the nameplate of the tub for the proper circuit and wiring.
(50A. sounds like too much). You DO need a GFCI breaker.
You WILL need a #6 copper ground run to your service ground, and
bonded to any piping serving the tub.
How is a hot tub jet attached to the pipe behind it? Screwed, glued, clamped? How do I remove a leaky one?
Posted by admin
We're pretty sure our leak is behind a jet, but can't see how to remove it. No "parts" website shows how the jets attach, nor do DIY sites mention it. The tub is beyond warranty and this needs to be a DIY repair. Tub has cedar skirting and acrylic shell with sprayed foam insulation.
First you need to find which jet(s) are leaking. Take some food coloring in the little squeeze bottles squeeze out a little bit in front of each jet and watch the coloring. The jet that is leaking will suck the color in to it.
After you have found the problem jet(s) you will need to get to the back side of the jet and you will see that they are hard plumbed in. you will need to cut the pipe you them can unscrew the jet popping it out. Replace the jet you will have to glue in a short stub of pipe with a union on the back of the jet so you can connect the new jet to the old pipe.
can a bad filter in a hot tub prevent it from heeting up?

Not really. A VERY clogged filter can reduce the efficiency of the heating by reducing the water circulation, but if it's not heating up at all your problem is elsewhere.
have you ever heard of a spa in a box?

my question is

How to remove pine needles from a hot tub?
Posted by admin
A bunch of pine needles blew into my hot tub. Will the filter take care of them and if not, how can I get them out in the simplest fashion?
Also, what about dirt gathered at the bottom of the tub?
A pool-cleaning net would probably be your best option, since the needles may block your filter.
To clean the dirt out, I would suggest emptying the hot tub and using a wet-vac to get rid of the dirt.
Is their a device that heats up water without using a hot water heater.?
Posted by admin
Heres the problem. I got a generator but it its not enough to run my hot water heater. Is their a portable device out thier like a thermal device that i can use to stick in the tub and make the water hot? I know it maybe a dumb question. But I want use all options. Especially with the coming economic crisis anything could happen at anytime.
What do you mean expending my energy in the wrong direction Corky R ?
While it’s true that there are such things as immersion water heaters, they are electric and don’t do much of anything more than to just keep the surface of the water from freezing, they certainly don’t make HOT water. The elements that are in an electric water heater are the thermal devices you’re looking for to heat water, and they do a fairly economical job in the heater, which is enclosed and insulated to keep most of the heat in the water, not let it escape into the atmosphere. Also, people got along without heating their water in large tanks to have ready at a moments notice, for many, many years, by heating water as they needed it on a gas stove. I don’t think the question is dumb, I think you’re expending your energy in the wrong direction.
