Can I build my own in-ground hot tub?

Posted by admin

My husband is a pretty handy guy and we have a very tight budget. He doesn't like the above ground portable hot tubs, and I'm wondering if it would be possible for us to build our own in-ground hot tub? I live in Houston, TX, where the ground moves quite a bit. Gunite pools are popular here. Would this be a manageable thing for us? Any tips/suggestions? Any idea on the cost?

Wow, you have great faith in husband! You'll need: the tub or water holding vessel, the pump, the heater, the filter, the timer, perhaps an ozonator to help with the cleaning and any jets you want to install. Why not just get in inground spa?

I need a stair stringer pattern for a set of steps for a hot tub?

Both Lowe's and Home Depot sell precut stair stringers of various lengths that you can "trim to fit".

If you want to make them from scratch, look to your local Public Library. They should have several books in the home improvement section which will walk you through the process of measuring, laying out, cutting, and installing stairs.

Good luck with your project.

Any place that I can repair my hot tub in 60453?

I have an old vita spa from like 86-87, don't wanna get rid of it cause the room looks nice and dont wanna mess it up. The problem is that the water won't heat up and the jets are messed up (i think). Any estimates on how much it would cost to repair it would be very helpful as well.

Old hot tub filter won’t shut off HELP?

Posted by admin

I bought an old hot tub from a guy. The filter has two settings “auto” and “continuous” . As i said this is an older tub with air switches (no digital display). When i first got it, when in the auto position, the tub would run for a little bit and then shut off. Now it runs for hours and then shuts down for two or three minutes and then kicks back on. This cost me roughly $120 on my electric bill last month. Any ideas?
It's not the heater because it does it even when i have the heater off. Any other ideas. ( and really google it posted by one user as a solution….come on man)

try and google it.

why is my hot tub filter slimy?

Posted by admin

Well kept hot tub. Temperature dropping in winter weather and filter/basket slimy-gummed up.

Over time, the filter will collect layers upon layers of contaminants. Body oil, dead skin cells, etc. The filter will have to be shocked with a dose of chlorine and then washed in the top shelf of your dishwasher. As for the temp drop, do you have an insulated cover for the hot tub. Mine drops quickly as soon as I remove the cover.
